The super power combo that helps rehydrate your dry winter skin

There are two ingredients you need to know about when it comes to smooth and supple skin during the colder months.

There are lots of things to love about winter. Crisp morning walks. Hot soup. Red wine. Open fires.

But one thing absolutely no one loves is parchment-like, dry winter skin.

It’s unfair but the season that brings us rain, frost, ice and sometimes snow (all variants of H20), also brings us skin dryness, flakiness, scaliness and annoyingness at such things.

The harsh reality is that the combination of cold air outdoors, dry air indoors, low humidity levels and biting winter wind can leaving our skin looking D.R.Y.

Two ingredients that will help manage dry winter skin

The first thing you absolutely need to know about when it comes to dry skin is ceramides.

Simply put, ceramides are lipids (AKA fat molecules) that help your skin hold on to moisture and allow for proper function in the skin barrier. Ceramides are an essential component of the skin, making up half its outer layer.

They are essential in supporting the skin barrier function and retaining moisture within the skin.

As well as helping keep your skin smooth and supple, science shows that ceramides play another important role.

As part of the skin’s protective barrier, they help protect it from exposure to environmental aggressors like dry air, pollution and even certain soaps.

When ceramide levels are low, the skin barrier function can become compromised, allowing moisture to escape and those external aggressors to penetrate – which can lead to dry, irritated skin.

The second powerhouse hydrator is hyaluronic acid, otherwise known as HA.

A sugar found naturally in our skin that holds onto water and helps keep it hydrated and plump, hyaluronic acid is like a magnet to moisture.

Without getting too science-y, just a single gram of hyaluronic acid has the genius ability to hold up to 1000x times its weight in water. Hello HA, our forever friend.

Where do you find these superhero ingredients?

Thankfully, there is a simple answer.
