Recipe: Gluten-free date chocolate balls with coconut

Keep your family energised throughout the day with these gluten-free chocolate balls. The perfect healthy treat when you want a snack.   


180g Medjool dates

½ vanilla pod

1 pinch salt

3 tbsp cocoa powder

75g blanched almonds; finely chopped

6 tbsp coconut flakes; for rolling




Step 1. 

Roughly dice the dates. Place in a blender. Split the vanilla pod and scrape the seeds and pulp into the blender. Add the salt and cocoa and blend until smooth and even. Add the almonds and mix well.

Step 2.

Take approximately one and a half teaspoons of the mixture at a time and shape into balls with your hands.

Step 3.

Place the coconut flakes on a plate, roll the balls in the coconut to coat, and place on a plate. Chill for three hours before serving. 

Makes about 20 balls.
