Homemade spiced pumpkin hummus recipe

Spiced pumpkin hummus:

Serves: 6 | Prep time: 15 mins | Cook time: 30 mins


  • 500g pumpkin (before peeling), skin removed, deseeded and chopped into 2-3cm pieces
  • 1 clove garlic (skin on)
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 400g can chickpeas, rinsed and drained
  • 1/3 cup tahini
  • ½ tsp ground cumin
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp salt


Step 1.

Preheat oven to 200°C.

Step 2.

Place pumpkin cubes and garlic clove on a large oven tray and drizzle with 1 tbsp of the oil.

Roast for 30-35 minutes, turning gently halfway, until golden brown.

Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly.

Step 3.

Remove garlic from the skin and transfer to a food processor along with the pumpkin and the remaining ingredients.

Blend until smooth.

Add a little water if the hummus is too thick.

Step 4.

Serve with pita bread or veggie sticks.
