The hottest hair and beauty looks on the Golden Globes red carpet

The Golden Globes not only kick off the Hollywood awards season; they also lead the way when it comes to  beauty trends for the year ahead.

From Old Hollywood glamour to Lady Gaga’s radical makeover, these were the standout hair and beauty looks on the Golden Globes red carpet.

Old Hollywood glam/red lips

A variation on Old Hollywood makeup and hair might be a tried and trusted red carpet look, but it’s dependable for a reason.

Golden Globes co-host Sandra Oh was a clear winner, rocking a dark rose-coloured lip and flapper-esque curls, also known as finger waves, with an equally classic-style Versace gown.

Amy Adams, Julia Roberts and Isla Fisher rocked similar hairstyles, while Dakota Fanning and Laura Harrier sported the more standard old Hollywood look; a bright red lip paired with simple eye make-up.

Sleek up-dos with a deep part

Deeper hair partings were an emerging trend last year, which extended to up-dos this year.

Riverdale star Lili Reinhart kept things simple and sleek with a deep, slicked-down side part and low bun, allowing her bright red eye make-up and dress to take centre stage.

Gemma Chan and Rachel Brosnahan sported similar hairstyles, albeit more relaxed.

Blunt ’90s bob

Beauty inspired by the 1990s beauty isn’t going anywhere soon, as shown by the Posh Spice-like blunt bobs.

Irina Shayk looked every inch a ’90s supermodel, emphasised by her figure-hugging Versace gown.

Lucy Boynton sported a similar hairstyle, but it was styled in a more modern and texturised way, showing its versatility.

Something blue

Living Coral might be the official colour of the year, but it was a sea of blue at the Globes this year.

And none stood brighter than Lady Gaga, who wore a custom blue Valentino gown of Cinderella proportions.

The superstar extended the colour into her makeup, and even her hair had blue streaks.

Lupita Nyong’o, Alison Brie and Allison Janney were also fans of blue, but their take on the trend was far more subdued.

Coral lips

It wasn’t the most popular colour dress-wise, but when it came to coral-hued lips it was a different story altogether.

A number of actresses donned coral lips, including Jameela Jamil, Saoirse Ronan, Melissa McCarthy and Jessica Chastain.

Grande-esque pony

The red carpet is often when experimental beauty and hair looks come out to play – as demonstrated by Kristin Cavillari, who sported a towering high pony of Ariana Grande proportions.

This is another early 1990s trend that’s gaining traction in the hair community, so maybe the pop singer was on to something after all.
