Feeling stressed? How Vitamin B may help

Support yourself through stressful times with these suggestions from Pharmacist and Master Herbalist Gerald Quigley.

We need stress, it gets us through every day but it’s the chronic stress that really starts to eat into our health.

Stress affects sleep, social patterns, work performance, relationships, and many aspects of our mental health. Our brain is not allowed to rest and get that much needed “brain time”.

Stress causes a drop in our ability to cope, to organise and to interact.

Clinically we look to the B group vitamins with added magnesium to support us through times of increased stress.

Vitamin B is a “group” of water-soluble substances, which act together and separately to turn our food into fuel, helping prevent fatigue, burning feet, poor appetite and emotional instability. Magnesium is used as a tension reliever, helping alleviate anxiety, insomnia, constipation, fluid retention and headaches.

Natural sources

  • Magnesium: green leafy vegetables (in season), blueberries, pistachios, dark chocolate, salmon, and avocado.

Remember to speak to your Chemist Warehouse Pharmacist about the options specific to your situation.
