6 beauty trends you need to know about in 2023

This time of year is all about renewal, so why not refresh your beauty routine with some of the hottest beauty trends right now?

From lips with a glass-like finish to nails with gradient designs that reflect your mood, here are the looks you’ll want to recreate this season.

Angel waves

Essentially this year’s take on ‘cool girl waves’, the ‘angel waves’ trend involves creating loose waves with your preferred heat styler in a way that looks effortless and randomised, leading people to speculate whether you are one of those rare individuals who wake up with incredible hair.

Aura nails

Ever since aura photos and designs have caught on, it was only a matter of time before the eye-catching trend would be repurposed for beauty.

And now that time has come in the form of nail art.

“I am obsessing over the aura nails trend and many of my clients are requesting the look,” Melbourne nail artist Nicole Hughes says.

“There are so many colour combinations that can be done, so it’s extremely versatile.

“The best way to achieve the look is through an airbrush, but your tech can use a blooming gel, too.”

Tinker Bell side bangs

Bangs, or fringes, are one of the biggest hair trends of the moment and if you are on the fence about committing to the look, a piecey, layered style is the perfect entry point.

As well as giving a softer finish, Tinker Bell bangs have the bonus of being easier to grow out compared to chunkier fringes due to the style’s signature sweeping layers.

Mint green eyes

Amid the abundance of colourful, maximalist beauty trends vying for our attention, mint green make-up offers a welcome change of pace.

Representing the perfect middle ground between loud colours and safe neutrals, the pastel hue is universally flattering and can help make the whites of your eyes look clearer and more alert.

Glossy lined lip

Hailey Bieber is credited for reviving the glossy lined lip trend but for many, the signature 1990s look never went out of fashion.

Simple and universally flattering, the trend involves using a brown lip liner that’s considerably darker than your skin tone for maximum contrast, then applying a sheer or clear gloss to tie the look together and give it a nice sheen.

Some like to apply a nude lipstick in the centre of the lip before applying gloss for a more ’90s feel, but consider this optional.

Lip oils

In the space of a year, lip oils have gone from being an underappreciated make-up product to one of the hottest-selling items in the beauty industry.

“The thing that sets lip oils aside from traditional glosses is that they typically contain nourishing ingredients, provide a glass-like finish and aren’t as sticky on the lips, hence why they’ve skyrocketed in popularity,” celebrity make-up artist and hairstylist Kate Fletcher says.
