What does your fragrance say about you?

The perfect accessory to any outfit, Creative Stylist Fernando Barraza discusses how to choose the right fragrance for you.

While fragrance has been around since the Egyptians, it was only in 1190 that it began to be produced commercially in Paris. Fast forward to present day and ‘fragrance’ is now a multibillion-dollar industry.

A common mistake people make when applying their fragrance is to apply too much. Perfume is activated with heat, so look to the pressure points on the body – behind the ears, wrists and inside the elbow – when applying your fragrance.

It’s also a nice idea to spray the back of your neck with your perfume, so when you hug someone they can smell your fragrance.

There is most certainly a fragrance for every occasion, which also says a lot about your personality. The four most common fragrances are floral (for those that are feminine, romantic and like to play dress ups), woody (for the nature lovers, strong, with a free spirit), aquatic (crisp, clean and cool headed) and oriental (go getters and quite masculine).

We all want to make a first impression that lasts, so make sure not to overpower yourself with your favourite fragrance. Like an accessory, fragrance should be the last thing you apply before you head out to take on the world.
