New season party beauty trends you’ll love for hair and make-up

Abstract eyes

Graphic eyes have been popular for some time but next year, you can expect the trend to make a shift towards the more abstract, with multicoloured dots, stripes and lines used to create truly one-of-a-kind eye looks.

“Fresh, fun eye make-up is an easy way to liven up your make-up and it’s a nice shift from a bronze or neutral eye look,” Sydney make-up artist Natasha Pellegrino says.

Dramatic liner

If you’d rather stick to neutral tones, amp up the intensity with dramatic eyeliner.

Seen all over the spring/summer ’24 catwalk, the trend varied from smoky and sensual at Luisa Spagnoli to an intense cat eye at LaQuan Smith.

There are no rules to this look – just don’t go subtle.

Soft colours

A wash of colour on the lids isn’t a new concept in beauty, but this retro look is finding new life thanks to BeautyTok.

“I’m so happy to see more people getting comfortable with colour and learning to be more experimental with their make-up,” Natasha says.

“There’s a lot to appreciate about a minimal look, but it’s refreshing to see more Australians embracing more colourful eye make-up.”

Popular at London Fashion Week, the trend most often involves soft pastel hues, perfectly suited to the warmer months.

To make the colour pop, first apply a white eyeshadow.

Bombshell up-dos

The supermodel looks of the ’90s continue to dominate the runway and are just as influential in beauty trends, such as the revival of bombshell up-dos.

Big, bouffant and voluminous are what you want to aim for in hair – just be sure to keep the front layers out for a relaxed, modern touch.

“I love the revival of ’90s hairstyles,” L’Oréal Professionnel educator Joel McLaren says.

According to the hair expert, loose chignons and textured topknots are easy to recreate and give the ultimate cool girl vibe.

Silk hair accessories

Next time you have a bad hair day, skip the cap in favour of something a little more luxurious.

Silk bandanas don’t just look good, they also help protect your locks from the elements outdoors.

It’s not the only silk accessory trending in hair either, with a variety of ribbons seen on the runway, particularly in corset-like hair designs and dramatic bows.

Regency-inspired styling

If the thought of a heavily styled up-do makes your head hurt, try a low, loose bun instead.

For a romantic Bridgerton-esque finish, leave the front tendrils out and style them with a soft wave. “This particular hair styling complements so many hair types and can suit a range of events,” Joel says.
