Jade K beauty tutorial: Cloud skin and a white graphic eye

Dreamy cloud skin and a frosty, white graphic eye make the perfect winter pairing. Watch beauty expert Jade Kisnorbo create these on-trend looks.

Skin finishes have dominated beauty in recent years but unlike “glass skin” and the dewy, glossy finishes that precede it, cloud skin offers a softer, more diffused take on these popular looks.

What makes cloud skin so unique is that the focus isn’t on skin prep or luminous base products; instead, it’s all about intentional powder placement.

Is cloud skin for everyone?

Cloud skin is essentially soft matte rebranded, except it can work with all skin types – even dry skin – so long as you moisturise and prep your skin accordingly.

Unlike a traditional matte look, cloud skin has dimension; it’s all about selective glow, perfectly balancing dewy and matte for a dreamy, soft-focus finish.

Using a primer is optional but if you have oily or textured skin, a blurring formulation works best with this look.

Another rule of thumb is to opt for a satin formulation for your base.

Satin foundations are great because they’re somewhere in between a traditional matte and a luminous foundation – you still get the coverage, but the finish is far more flexible and skin-like compared to a traditional skin finish.

How to create cloud skin

1. Apply base

Apply your base product to prepped skin using featherlight application.

Use a sponge or foundation brush to stipple the product, and really work it into the skin.

2. Use powder selectively

With a fluffy brush, buff a translucent powder over your T-zone and any areas of the face that are prone to shine.

Leave the high points – such as the bridge of the nose, cheekbones and temples – powder-free.

3. Add shimmer

Using your preferred highlighter or a shimmery eyeshadow, add further luminosity to the high points by buffing the product into these areas, effectively setting the rest of your base in the process.

Lightly buff the face with a large powder brush to ensure everything is blended in.

How to nail a white graphic eye

Frosty, white make-up is another major trend this winter and it looks great paired with cloud skin.

While a graphic eye involves some creative liberty with the direction you take it in, an easy approach is to carve out a shape that follows your natural eye shape.

Using a white eyeliner, stencil out your desired shape.

If you make any errors, simply smudge it away and try again.
