Skin feeling dry? Here’s how to rehydrate it from the inside, out

Permanently switched on heating and harsh winds can wreak havoc with your complexion. Our handy hacks will keep your visage looking glowing and gorgeous all winter long.

Crisp mornings, crackling fires, hearty meals, sweaters and, okay, we admit it, track pants on repeat.

There is a lot, we mean a lot, which we love about winter.

But the cold temperatures, biting winds and low humidity levels aren’t any of them because they make for dry air, which can draw moisture out of the skin, leaving it chapped and red.

And that is not the glowing look that we’re going for!

Fortunately, science, and many skincare experts, have done their research and there are some easy ways to keep your complexion looking its plump and luminous best this winter.

1. Turn the hot tap to warm

We know, it is winter, and it’s cold, and piping hot water seems, well, appealing.

But while a hot bath or shower can warm the cockles of your heart in winter, it can strip your skin of important natural oils and leave it feeling tight and dry.

Instead, try using warm or lukewarm (go on be brave) water and keep baths or showers as short as you can.

2. Protect yourself from the weather

Extreme cold and dry air can damage your skin’s natural barrier and cause dryness, flakiness and irritation.

Dry skin can even lead to fine lines and wrinkles.

Have appropriate clothing – such as a hat, scarf and gloves – handy, to cover your head, neck and hands.

Also, using a moisturiser with SPF helps protect your skin from harmful UV rays, even on dreary, cloudy days.

3. Use a humidifier to maximise moisture

Now that you’ve protected yourself outdoors, think about using a humidifier indoors (in your home or office) to restore moisture to the atmosphere.

Even if you just turn it on overnight at home while you’re sleeping.

If you don’t have a humidifier, try placing some large bowls of water in your bedroom. As the water evaporates it adds moisture to the air.

4. Add some collagen to your diet

Collagen is a protein found naturally in our skin, hair and nails and plays an important role in supporting skin elasticity hydration and firmness.

Studies have shown that supplements containing collagen may help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and dryness, which could be just the ticket we need in the cooler months.

5. Try oral rehydration drinks

We love handy, and we adore easy, and Hydralyte Plus Collagen is both.

Compact, slim and easy to pop into your bag, these innovative powder sticks in delicious pink grapefruit flavour, rehydrate on the inside and the outside.

That’s because they contain sustainably sourced, hydrolysed marine collagen to support skin hydration and healthy hair and nails, as well as vitamin C and zinc.

Simply empty contents of one stick into a 200ml cup of fresh, cold water and stir as required.

Hello happy, hydrated skin. And here’s to enjoying a wonderful winter.
