What can a digital scan tell you about your health?

A new smart scanner gives you a digital health check anywhere, anytime, for personalised insights without the need for expensive devices.

It was one of ancient Rome’s greatest poets, Virgil, who said, “The greatest wealth is health.”

Fast forward to today and modern medicine agrees.

Studies show maintaining a healthy lifestyle can help prevent chronic disease and long-term illnesses, which makes monitoring your wellbeing a vital component of your wellness toolkit.

The launch of a new – and free – digital health and wellbeing scanner through Chemist Warehouse means staying updated on how your body is performing is now as simple as one, two, three.

How the digital health check works

Developed by exercise physiologist Nicholas Harris, the scanner works by enabling any camera sensor on any device to scan your face and measure heart rate, heart rate variation, blood oxygen, breathing rate and stress levels.

“At a time when looking after our health and wellness has never been more important, we’re excited to partner with Chemist Warehouse to offer customers this truly innovative software solution,” Nicholas, founder and chief executive officer of Human Performance Engineering, says.

The high-performance specialist says the scanner uses camera sensors to remotely measure physiological signs by analysing the light absorption of your skin and changes in blood flow.

“Our proprietary software then interprets the data to get results in real time,” Nicholas explains.

“It allows anyone to quickly and effectively measure these indications by using a simple, camera-enabled computer or phone.”

An impressive track record

Nicholas has spent an entire career focussed on human health and performance.

After graduating from Cardiff University in Wales with a degree in sports and human science and starting his career at Jaguar Racing, he was head of performance within Formula 1 for 11 years alongside top teams and drivers, including Red Bull, BMW Williams, Honda, Mark Webber and Jenson Button.

He worked as a performance consultant for world number one tennis players Andy Murray and Maria Sharapova, Robert Downey Jnr in his roles as Iron Man, and Australia’s own AC/DC for their Black Ice World Tour.

Nicholas describes launching the scanner in the post-pandemic environment as perfect timing.

“The app is designed to give everyone peace of mind at a time when we’re all feeling a bit overwhelmed with a Covid hangover, rising inflation and interest rates,” he says.

How to perform a digital health check at home

“Everyone can now monitor their health and stress levels in the comfort of their own home, without having that anxious feeling when travelling to a health centre,” Nicholas says.

Chemist Warehouse Director Mario Tascone says the scanner is another way the retailer is empowering customers to take control of their health.

“Your body is the greatest thing you’ll ever own but until now, there’s been no easy way to check if it’s performing at its best,” Mario says.

“As the House of Wellness, we’re delighted customers can now do this in a way that is non-contact, fast and efficient.”

Customers can access the scanner for free online via the Chemist Warehouse website and simply follow the prompts to check heart rate, respiration, oxygen and stress levels.
