Teriyaki chicken

Bring authentic Japanese flavours to your dinner table with this sweet and tangy homemade teriyaki chicken. Prep the chicken beforehand and you’ll have this tasty after-work meal whipped up in no time.

Ingredients

8-10 chicken thigh fillets

1/3 cup kecap manis

1 tbsp chilli garlic sauce

1 tbsp sesame oil

For the teriyaki sauce:

(makes approx 1 cup)

1/4 cup soy sauce

1/4 cup mirin

1/4 cup cooking sake

1 tbsp brown sugar

1 tbsp honey

 

 

 

Method

Step 1. 

Marinate chicken in kecap manis, chilli garlic and sesame oil for a few hours or overnight.

Step 2. 

Preheat barbecue to high.

Step 3. 

Barbecue chicken for 8 minutes on each side or until cooked and slightly charred. Chop into bite sized pieces and pour over 1/2 cup teriyaki sauce.

Step 4.

To make teriyaki sauce, place all ingredients in a pot. Bring to the boil and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until sauce starts to thicken.

Serves 6-8.
